BUILD REGULATIONS - UPDATED OCTOBER 2024

  1. Your build must be lawnmower based (no suspension). You can build a chassis to go under the mower panel work if you choose, or you may use the original mower chassis. Recommended size steel to use for the chassis building is 50 x 25 x 2.5mm. The finished mower MUST look like an identifiable domestic ride on mower.
  2. Mower decks MUST be removed. If the deck cannot be removed, then the blades and blade drive MUST be removed for safety.
  3. Tyres are to be Lawnmower style; such as turf-saver or scorpion. Dirt kart tyres (Hoosier etc) can be used. NO ATV TYRES are permitted. Front tyres MUST be fitted with tubes. Maximum diameter of rims is 10", no rim width restriction. Go kart rims are permitted.
  4. Wheel track should not exceed 1200mm to the outside of the tyre. Wheelbase to be approximately a standard ride on length (essentially 1200mm front axle centre to rear axle centre, give or take 100mm either way). These measurements should be adhered to and are applicable for current and future builds - ie: ALL ride on mowers MUST comply with these build measurements.
  5. Seat height to a maximum of 600mm to the base of the seat.
  6. Brakes on rear axle only. These can be hydraulic or mechanical.
  7. Mower is required to have a steering wheel (NO HANDLE BARS PERMITTED*).
  8. NO CAR ENGINES permitted. Lawnmower/stationary engine (30hp maximum) and motorbike engines (900cc maximum) can be used. Keeping in mind that mainland rules are set to 450cc maximum with motorbike engines. All engines are to be naturally aspirated only.
  9. Any lawnmower engine running ungoverned and/or modified MUST run a Billet Flywheel to avoid the risk of flywheel explosion.
  10. If chain or shaft driven, these MUST be covered where the driver may be able to come into contact.
  11. Exhaust can not be positioned where the driver is at risk of being burnt or injured. The recommended position is underneath the mower.
  12. ALL mowers MUST have a dead man / kill switch (mower turns off if rider falls off) like a lanyard style switch that is attached to the driver etc. No dead man / kill switch on the mower means NO RACING.
  13. "Projections" of any kind are not permitted. These include, but are not limited to the following: raised or wide wings on any point of the mower; extra protruding attachments to the body or framework that do not sit within the build guidelines; pointed or sharp protrusions that pose any type of risk to the competitor or other competitors / attendees on track or in the pits area.
  14. No axle or wheel mounting bolts may protrude beyond the face of the side-wall of the wheel/tyre area.
  15. ALL MOWERS MUST be safe and complete with all panels in place. This means no loose parts, no loose bolts or nuts, bonnets must be spring latched for ease of access in the case of emergency or fire.
  16. ALL RIDERS MUST HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH THEM AT RACE MEETINGS.
  17. All Riders MUST wear long sleeves, long pants, boots and a FULL FACE HELMET. Neck brace and gloves are highly recommended.
  18. A tow hook on the front of the mower is recommended, for ease of towing back to the pits if breakdown should occur. Nudge bars and rear bumper bars are permitted as they may also be used as tow points.
  19. Mud flaps are required to be fitted to the rear of the mower that cover the width of the rear tyres, to ensure a reduction of flying debris while competing. This ensures the safety of fellow racers and reduces the risk of damages.
  20. Classes will be lap-speed based, depending on the number of racers on the day.
  21. These regulations are set in place and participants/racers agree to abide by these regulations to ensure safety measures are met by all taking part.

LAST DATE OF REGULATIONS REVISION : 6TH OCTOBER, 2024.

Any regulation updates will be noted above and date of change recorded.

Addendum to RULE 7: *If attending and competing/taking part from a location other than Tasmania and the racing mower utilises handlebars, this will be permitted for attendance/competing for the duration of the event. If residing in Tasmania, the mower must be adapted to a steering wheel to compete.
